AFTER PARTY Installation
by Leonardo Pierro
The 'After Party' installation is a détournement inspired by Piero Manzoni, whose work of art is still current despite the scandalous aspect aroused by his provocations. The détournement created with this installation combines the artist's original idea by adapting it to the real situation: specifically, the paradox of the cult of relics, considered sacred regardless of their actual nature, made famous by Marcel Duchamp's ready-mades, boost its uncanny effect. Beyond the scandal that this deceptive détournement can generate, I am attracted by the anesthetic reaction of art and by the meaning it assumes whenever it is reintroduced in a new context. After the glories of Contemporary Art and the economic boom of the art market, the artist finds himself re-evaluating his work according to a constantly evolving society, forced to clean up the glories and celebrations of solemn times through a conscious and lucid subtraction artifice.
Subtraction «is done through technique, through images, forcing our imagination to cancel itself, our passions to extrovert, shattering the mirror that we hold out to it, hypocritically after all, to capture it to our advantage»34,
